Political participation is more than voting during elections; it is about being informed, organised, engaged, and willing to contribute to the decisions that shape our communities and future. For Nigerians in the diaspora, strategic political participation provides an opportunity to bring global experience, fresh ideas, professional expertise, and valuable networks into conversations about development and leadership.
Sustainable impact begins with purposeful engagement. Rather than reacting only to political events, individuals and organisations can contribute by supporting constructive dialogue, promoting accountability, encouraging youth participation, and advocating for policies that address real challenges in education, healthcare, security, employment, infrastructure, and economic development.
For diaspora communities, organisation is particularly important. A coordinated network can transform individual voices into a stronger collective contribution while maintaining respect for democratic principles and diverse opinions. Strategic engagement should be guided by facts, transparency, responsible communication, and a commitment to peaceful participation.
At Friends of Jerry in the UK & Diaspora (FOJA), we believe political participation should ultimately be about people and progress. Our goal is to encourage a connected and informed diaspora community that can contribute ideas, build partnerships, support positive initiatives, and play a constructive role in shaping a better future for Kaduna State and Nigeria.
